Rivastigmine is a <strong>pseudo-irreversible dual cholinesterase inhibitor<\/strong> &mdash; it inhibits both <strong>acetylcholinesterase (AChE)<\/strong> \u0438 <strong>butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE)<\/strong>. The dual mechanism distinguishes it from donepezil and galantamine, which only inhibit AChE.<\/p>\n<p>Rivamer from Sun Pharma is a 1.5 mg rivastigmine capsule &mdash; the starting dose for the 6&ndash;8 week titration in mild-to-moderate Alzheimer&#39;s and Parkinson&#39;s disease dementia. Titrate to the maintenance 12 mg\/day dose. Always take with food to minimise the GI side effects that are characteristic of oral rivastigmine.
