Inside herpes-virus-infected cells, penciclovir triphosphate blocks viral DNA polymerase \u2014 the same final mechanism as aciclovir.<\/p>\n<p>The clinical edge famciclovir offers is <strong>intracellular persistence<\/strong>: penciclovir triphosphate has a half-life of 10+ hours inside infected cells, vs ~1 hour for aciclovir triphosphate.
