Product Overview

Femilon is a medication containing the active ingredients Desogestrel (0.15 mg) and Ethinyl Estroids (0.02 mg). It belongs to a class of medications known as combined oral contraceptives, commonly referred to as birth control pills. Femilon is designed to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration, and thinning the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation. Each blister pack of it contains 21 active pills and 7 inactive pills, providing a monthly cycle of contraception.

Uses

Femilon is primarily used as a contraceptive to prevent pregnancy. It is also prescribed to regulate menstrual cycles, reduce menstrual cramps and pain, and alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Additionally, it may be recommended to treat acne and hirsutism (excessive hair growth) in women.

How to Use

To use it, take one active pill orally at the same time each day for 21 consecutive days, followed by seven days of taking inactive pills or no pills. Start the first active pill on the first day of your menstrual cycle for immediate protection against pregnancy, or on the first Sunday after your period begins. Follow the arrows on the blister pack to ensure you take the pills in the correct order. Use additional contraceptive methods, such as condoms, if you miss a dose or experience vomiting or diarrhea within 3-4 hours of taking the pill.

How it Works

It works by combining the effects of Desogestrel and Ethinyl Estroids to prevent pregnancy. Desogestrel inhibits ovulation, preventing the release of an egg from the ovaries. Ethinyl Estroids thickens cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to reach the egg, and thins the uterine lining, reducing the likelihood of implantation. Together, these mechanisms provide highly effective contraception.

Dosage and Administration

Take one active Femilon pill orally at the same time each day for 21 consecutive days, followed by seven days of taking inactive pills or no pills. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, even if it means taking two pills on the same day. Use additional contraceptive methods, such as condoms, for the next seven days after missing a dose. If you experience vomiting or severe diarrhea within 3-4 hours of taking it, use alternative contraception until you can resume taking the pill regularly.
