Product Overview

Rioci is a medication containing the active ingredient Riociguat. It is formulated as a tablet for oral administration. Riociguat is a vasodilator that works by relaxing the blood vessels and increasing the supply of oxygenated blood to the lungs. This medication is primarily used in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), conditions characterized by high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs.

Rioci tablets are indicated for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) to improve exercise capacity and delay disease progression. PAH is a progressive condition where the blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries becomes dangerously high, leading to shortness of breath, fatigue, and decreased exercise tolerance. CTEPH is a rare form of pulmonary hypertension caused by blood clots in the lungs.

How to Use

Rioci tablets should be taken orally with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, and do not crush, chew, or break it. It is important to take Rioci exactly as prescribed to achieve the best results. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but do not take two doses at once to make up for a missed one.

How it Works

Riociguat, the active ingredient in Rioci, belongs to a class of medications called soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators. It works by stimulating the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), a signaling molecule that causes the blood vessels to relax and dilate. By widening the pulmonary arteries, Rioci reduces the resistance to blood flow in the lungs, thereby lowering blood pressure and improving exercise capacity in patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Dosage and Administration

The recommended starting dose of Rioci for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is 1 mg taken three times a day. The dose may be gradually increased based on individual patient response and tolerability, up to a maximum dose of 2.5 mg three times a day. For chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), the starting dose is 0.5 mg taken three times daily, with a maximum dose of 2.5 mg three times daily. Rioci tablets should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Rioci offers several benefits for patients with pulmonary hypertension, including:

  • Improved exercise capacity and functional status
  • Reduction in pulmonary vascular resistance
  • Delayed disease progression and improved survival rates
  • Symptomatic relief, including decreased shortness of breath and fatigue

Common Side Effects

Common side effects of Rioci may include headache, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, and low blood pressure. These side effects are usually mild to moderate in severity and may diminish over time as your body adjusts to the medication. However, if these side effects persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation.

Rioci should be used with caution in patients with hypotension, liver or kidney impairment, bleeding disorders, or a history of cardiovascular disease. It is contraindicated in pregnant women due to the potential risk of fetal harm. Rioci may interact with certain medications, such as nitrates, antihypertensives, and phosphodiesterase inhibitors, leading to additive hypotensive effects. Inform your doctor about all medications, supplements, and medical conditions before starting Rioci.

Storage Information

Store Rioci tablets at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the medication out of reach of children and pets. Do not use Rioci beyond the expiration date printed on the packaging.
