Product Overview
Yasmin is a combined oral contraceptive medication containing the active ingredients Drospirenone and Ethinylestradiol. It belongs to the class of medications known as hormonal contraceptives, which work by preventing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm from reaching the egg, and thinning the uterine lining to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg. Yasmin is available in tablet form and is taken orally once daily.
Uses
Yasmin is primarily used as a contraceptive to prevent pregnancy. It is also prescribed to regulate menstrual cycles, reduce menstrual cramps, and treat acne in women of reproductive age. Additionally, it may provide relief from symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), such as mood swings, irritability, and bloating.
How to Use
To use Yasmin effectively, take one tablet daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Start the pack on the first day of your menstrual period to ensure immediate contraceptive protection. Follow the direction of the arrows on the blister pack to take the tablets in the correct order. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember and continue taking the remaining tablets as usual.
How it Works
Yasmin works by suppressing ovulation, thereby preventing the release of an egg from the ovaries. It also thickens cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to enter the uterus and reach an egg. Additionally, it alters the uterine lining, making it less suitable for implantation of a fertilized egg. Together, these actions provide highly effective contraception.
Dosage and Administration
Each pack of it contains 28 tablets, with 21 active tablets containing hormones and 7 placebo tablets. Take one active tablet daily for 21 days, followed by one placebo tablet daily for the next 7 days. Begin a new pack on the eighth day, even if your period has not finished. Use additional contraceptive methods, such as condoms, during the first 7 days of starting Yasmin.
