What Elosalic Ointment is and how it works

Elosalic Ointment contains mometasone furoate 0.1% + salicylic acid 5%. The corticosteroid component binds the glucocorticoid receptor in keratinocytes and inflammatory cells, suppressing cytokine transcription and reducing erythema, itch, and skin proliferation. Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid that softens and dissolves the cement between corneocytes (desmolysis), thinning hyperkeratotic plaques and dramatically improving steroid penetration into thickened psoriatic skin. The combination is markedly more effective than steroid alone for chronic plaque psoriasis and hyperkeratotic eczema. Manufacturer: Glenmark (WHO-GMP certified).

Indikationer

• Chronic plaque psoriasis — limited body-surface area; the keratolytic component is critical for thick scaling plaques.
• Hyperkeratotic eczema — chronic, lichenified, scaly skin (palms, soles, scalp).
• Lichen simplex chronicus — thickened skin from chronic scratching.
• Pityriasis rubra pilaris — adjunct.

• Wash and dry the affected area. Apply emollient first if skin is very dry; wait 10 minutes.
• Apply a thin film of Elosalic Ointment twice daily — morning and evening — to plaques only.
• Avoid the face, eyelids, axillae, genitals, and skin folds (steroid + salicylic acid + occlusion = high atrophy and absorption risk).
• Maximum continuous use: 4 weeks on a single area without medical review.
• Maximum total amount: do not exceed 60 g per week in adults.
• Avoid occlusive dressings unless specifically directed.

Bivirkninger

• Almindelige: mild burning, stinging, dryness, peeling at the application site.
• Mindre almindelige: skin atrophy with prolonged use, telangiectasia, striae, perioral dermatitis if used near mouth, contact dermatitis.

Graviditet & amning

Can children use Elosalic Ointment?

No — both components have cumulative toxicity. Maximum continuous use is 4 weeks on any one area; long-term plaque psoriasis is better managed with intermittent steroid + vitamin D analogue rotation, biologics, or phototherapy.
