💡 Szybka odpowiedź
Flucos Gel is fluconazole 0.5% w/w topical gel — an unusual formulation (most fluconazole is oral). Used for superficial skin candidiasis, mild dermatophyte infections, and pityriasis versicolor in patients who prefer non-greasy gel over creams. Apply twice daily × 2–4 weeks. Note: oral fluconazole 150 mg single dose is the standard for vaginal candidiasis — topical gel is not the equivalent. For dermatophyte tinea, topical terbinafine is more potent and is generally preferred.

Zastosowanie
Flucos Gel (fluconazole 0.5% w/w gel, Indoco Remedies) is a topical formulation. Most fluconazole therapy is oral (single 150 mg dose for thrush, longer courses for systemic candidiasis). The topical gel is for skin and mucosal indications when a non-greasy water-soluble vehicle is preferred:
| Wskazanie | How to use |
|---|---|
| Cutaneous candidiasis (intertrigo, balanitis) | Twice daily × 1–2 weeks |
| Tinea cruris / corporis (mild) | Twice daily × 2–4 weeks |
| Pityriasis versicolor | Twice daily × 2–3 weeks |
| Vulval Candida (external itch) | 2–3× daily × 1 week — combine with oral fluconazole or clotrimazole pessary for full course |
For invasive or systemic candidiasis, vaginal candidiasis full course, oral thrush, oesophageal thrush, or cryptococcal disease — use oral or IV fluconazole, not the topical gel.
Jak aplikować
- Wash and dry the skin.
- Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice daily.
- The gel base is water-soluble and non-greasy — useful for hairy areas, intertriginous folds, and when patients dislike heavy creams.
- Continue 1 week after symptoms have cleared.
Jak to działa
Fluconazole inhibits fungal CYP51 (lanosterol 14-α-demethylase), blocking ergosterol biosynthesis. Topical absorption is minimal. The gel vehicle is preferred for hair-bearing or mucosal areas where cream would cake or clump.
Efekty uboczne
- Common — mild local irritation, transient stinging, dryness.
- Uncommon — contact dermatitis.
Najczęściej zadawane pytania
Why use topical fluconazole when oral fluconazole 150 mg works?
For superficial skin Candida (intertrigo, balanitis, vulval external itch), topical gel can be preferred when the patient is on warfarin, has many drug interactions, or prefers not to take a tablet. For vaginal thrush full course, oral fluconazole is more reliable.
Is topical fluconazole gel as effective as topical clotrimazole?
Comparable for cutaneous candidiasis. For dermatophyte tinea (athlete’s foot, ringworm), topical terbinafine is more potent and is preferred.
Can I use this for vaginal thrush?
External vulval itch — yes, in addition to a clotrimazole pessary or oral fluconazole single dose. The gel is not a substitute for intravaginal therapy or oral fluconazole for the full vaginal course.
Is Flucos Gel the same as oral Diflucan?
Same active ingredient (fluconazole) but very different exposure. Oral 150 mg gives systemic levels that clear infection from any body site; topical gel gives high local concentrations only.
Will I have drug interactions with topical fluconazole?
Topical absorption is much lower than oral, so drug interactions are negligible. If concerned (warfarin, statins), the topical gel is safer than the oral tablet.
Why does my doctor want me to combine the gel with the tablet?
For vulvovaginal Candida, oral fluconazole 150 mg single dose treats the vaginal infection; topical gel relieves vulval itch faster. Combination gives the best symptom relief and full clearance.
Can I use the gel inside the vagina?
No — fluconazole gel is formulated for external skin/mucosa, not as a vaginal pessary. For intravaginal use, get clotrimazole pessary or fluconazole capsule instead.
What about mouth thrush?
Use oral fluconazole 50–100 mg/day × 7–14 days, or miconazole oral gel. Topical fluconazole skin gel is not formulated for the mouth.
Does it stain clothing?
No — water-soluble base, washes out easily.
Why is fluconazole gel less common than clotrimazole gel?
Most fluconazole prescribing is oral, where the long half-life and broad coverage of single-dose therapy is the main advantage. Topical gels are a niche formulation; clotrimazole has more extensive topical experience.
