What Is Karvol Plus?

Karvol Plus contains a fixed-dose blend of:

• Menthol — gives the cooling sensation; activates TRPM8 receptors that confer a feeling of clearer airflow
• Terpineol — mild antiseptic essential oil
• Eucalyptol (1,8-cineole) — the main constituent of eucalyptus oil; mild anti-inflammatory and mucolytic

Used by adults and (under supervision) children for short-term symptomatic relief during head colds, mild sinusitis, and seasonal congestion.

How Does Karvol Plus Work?

The aromatic compounds vaporise when capsule contents are dropped into a bowl of hot water. Inhaled vapour gives a sensation of clearer airways through TRPM8 (cool-receptor) activation by menthol — even though airflow may not actually increase. Eucalyptol has mild mucus-thinning effect at the surface mucosa. Total relief is symptomatic and short-lasting (1–2 hours).

How to Use Karvol Plus

• Adults: cut or break one capsule and squeeze contents into a bowl of just-boiled (not boiling) water. Drape a towel over head and bowl, breathe in the vapour through the nose for 5–10 minutes.
• Παιδιά: apply contents to a tissue or pillow rather than steam — children can scald themselves with hot water. Never give to infants under 3 months (menthol can trigger laryngospasm in babies).
• Repeat 2–4 times daily as needed during the cold.
• Do not swallow the capsule — contents are for vapour inhalation only.

• Mild eye and nasal irritation if vapour is too strong
• Skin rash if contents contact skin (rare)
• Headache (concentrated vapour)

Serious — stop and seek help:

• Severe allergic reaction
• Bronchospasm in asthmatic patients (rare)
• Burns from hot water (always use just-boiled, not still-boiling water)

• Asthma: menthol vapour can rarely trigger bronchospasm; stop if wheeze develops.
• Burns: always use just-boiled water (let stand 1–2 minutes), not actively boiling.
• Karvol Plus is symptomatic relief only — does not treat infection or cure a cold.

Yes — colds are viral; antibiotics do not help. Karvol Plus is appropriate symptomatic relief during the 7–10 day natural cold course.

Can I give Karvol Plus to my baby?

Not under 3 months (menthol can cause laryngospasm). For older infants and toddlers, apply contents to clothing or pillow at a distance — never near the face directly.

How often can I use it?

2–4 times per day during a cold. No need for ongoing daily use once symptoms resolve.

Is Karvol Plus safe in pregnancy?

Topical and vapour exposure is generally considered safe; use sensibly and avoid prolonged direct skin contact.

Does Karvol Plus cure asthma?

No — it is not a treatment for asthma. Continue your inhalers. Some asthmatics may experience bronchospasm from menthol vapour.

Can I add Karvol Plus to my humidifier?

Some humidifiers accept aromatic additives; check the manufacturer instructions. Cool-mist humidifiers without aromatics are often a safer alternative for children.

Is the eucalyptol enough to clear chest mucus?

Vapour eucalyptol has only superficial mucolytic effect. For significant chest mucus retention, use systemic mucolytics like Mucinac (acetylcysteine) or Inhalex (ambroxol).

Why include menthol if it just creates a sensation?

The sensation of clear airflow is a real symptomatic benefit even if the physical airflow has not changed much. Symptom relief during a cold improves sleep and comfort.
