Cynomycin Capsule is also used to treat many sexually transmitted diseases and a skin condition known as acne. It may be taken with or without food. However, you should take it regularly at evenly spaced intervals as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor. Taking it at the same time every day will help you to remember to take it. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for, but you should always complete a full course of this antibiotic as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking it until you have finished, even when you feel better. If you stop taking it early, some bacteria may survive and the infection may come back.
Commonly seen side effects seen with this medicine include headache, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and skin reaction on exposure to sunlight (photosensitivity). Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. These are usually temporary and subside with the completion of treatment. Consult your doctor if you find these side effects bother or worry you.
Inform your doctor if you have any previous history of allergy to any antibiotic or liver or kidney problems before taking this medicine. You should also let your doctor know all other medicines you are taking as they may affect, or be affected by this medicine. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using it. It may blur your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cynomycin used for?
Cynomycin (minocycline) is a tetracycline-class antibiotic effective against a wide range of bacteria including atypical organisms. Common indications: acne (long-course, low-dose), respiratory tract infections, atypical pneumonia (Mycoplasma, Chlamydia), Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections (Rocky Mountain spotted fever, ehrlichiosis), brucellosis, cholera, syphilis in penicillin-allergic patients, and selected urinary and genital tract infections.
Why do I need to avoid dairy, antacids and iron with Cynomycin?
Tetracyclines bind divalent cations (calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, aluminium) in the gut, forming insoluble complexes that block absorption. Take Cynomycin at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after dairy products, antacids, mineral supplements, or sucralfate. Take with a full glass of water and stay upright for 30 minutes to prevent oesophageal irritation.
Why is Cynomycin avoided in pregnancy and young children?
Tetracyclines deposit in developing teeth and bones, causing permanent yellow-grey staining and enamel hypoplasia. They are contraindicated in pregnancy after the 18th week, in breastfeeding, and in children under 8 years (some authorities say under 12). Brief courses in children may sometimes be used for life-threatening Rickettsial disease.
What side effects should I know about?
Photosensitivity is the most distinctive — sunburn occurs more easily, so use SPF 30+ and avoid prolonged sun exposure. GI upset, oesophagitis (take upright with water), candidiasis, and rare cases of intracranial hypertension and hepatotoxicity are recognised. Minocycline specifically can cause blue-grey skin pigmentation, drug-induced lupus, and autoimmune hepatitis with prolonged use.
Can I drink alcohol while taking Cynomycin?
No direct disulfiram reaction, but heavy alcohol can worsen GI side effects and increase liver-enzyme strain during the course. Best minimised.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember unless it is close to the next scheduled dose, in which case skip and resume the regular schedule. Never double up. Set a daily alarm if adherence is difficult.
