What Scabiheal Lotion is and how it works
Scabiheal Lotion contains gamma benzene hexachloride (lindane) 1% + cetrimide. Gamma benzene hexachloride (lindane, γ-HCH) is an organochlorine pesticide that disrupts arthropod nerve cell function, causing paralysis and death of mites and lice. It penetrates the skin in mammalian use and can cause central nervous system toxicity — particularly seizures — at therapeutic doses if misapplied. Manufacturer: WHO-GMP certified manufacturer.
⚠️ Withdrawn in many countries — second-line only — Lindane has been withdrawn from the market in the US (2009), EU (2008), Canada (2004), and most developed countries because of: (1) reported neurotoxicity (seizures and death from misapplication), (2) environmental persistence and bioaccumulation. The WHO classifies lindane as a Persistent Organic Pollutant. Use Scabiheal Lotion ONLY when permethrin and ivermectin are unavailable or contraindicated, and follow application instructions exactly.
Indications (second-line)
- Scabies — when permethrin treatment has failed and ivermectin is unavailable/contraindicated.
- Head lice — when permethrin and malathion have failed.
How to apply (scabies)
- Bath or shower; pat dry.
- Apply Scabiheal Lotion to the entire body from the neck down — including skin folds, between fingers and toes, genitals, soles.
- Avoid the face, scalp, and ears in adults.
- Leave on for 6–8 hours maximum (NOT overnight; risk of toxicity).
- Wash off thoroughly with cool water.
- Single application is typically sufficient. Do NOT routinely repeat — repeat only if treatment failure is confirmed at 2 weeks.
- Wash all clothes, bedding, towels at >60°C on the day of treatment.
- Treat all household contacts simultaneously.
