- Etoricoxib selectively inhibits COX-2, reducing inflammatory prostaglandin synthesis. This gives strong pain and inflammation control with less gastric-ulcer risk than non-selective NSAIDs.
- Serratiopeptidase is a proteolytic enzyme that degrades inflammatory mediators (notably bradykinin) and breaks down fibrin in oedematous tissue, reducing the viscosity of inflammatory exudate and supporting lymphatic drainage. It also has a mucolytic effect that is exploited separately in rhinosinusitis.
Nucoxia SP Dosing
- Adults: one tablet once daily, ideally at the same time each day
- Duration: short-course — typically 3 to 7 days for post-operative or post-traumatic pain; longer courses should be reviewed by a doctor
- Timing: take serratiopeptidase-containing products ideally op een lege maag (1 hour before food, or 2 hours after) because serratiopeptidase absorption is reduced by food. If gastric irritation is a problem, small food with the tablet is acceptable — the loss of enzyme absorption is a reasonable trade-off against gastric upset.

GI safety. Nucoxia SP (or its NSAID component) carries real risk of gastritis, peptic ulcer, and upper-GI bleeding. Risk is highest in patients over 65, in those with prior ulcer disease, and in anyone also on low-dose aspirin, corticosteroids, SSRIs, or anticoagulants. Take with food, at the lowest effective dose for the shortest reasonable time, and ask your doctor about adding a proton pump inhibitor (omeprazole, pantoprazole) for courses over 2–4 weeks.
Who Should Not Take Etoricoxib?
- Known hypersensitivity to etoricoxib or any NSAID
- Active peptic ulcer or GI bleed
- Inflammatory bowel disease flare
- Congestive heart failure (NYHA II–IV) — etoricoxib is specifically contraindicated
- Established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, or cerebrovascular disease
