budesonide is a topical glucocorticoid delivered directly to the bronchial mucosa. It binds intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, translocates to the nucleus, and:

How to Use Budecort Rotacaps Properly

• Insert one rotacap into a Rotahaler with the coloured end down.
• Twist the base sharply — listen for the click that pierces the cap.
• Breathe out fully away from the device.
• Seal lips around the mouthpiece.
• Inhale forcefully and deeply in one fast breath; you should hear the rotacap whir.
• Hold breath 10 seconds, then breathe out slowly through the nose.
• Check the rotacap is empty; if powder remains, repeat the inhalation.
• Rinse mouth, gargle, and spit out after every dose to prevent thrush and hoarseness.

Side Effects of Budecort Rotacaps

Common (local, dose-related):

• Oral thrush (white candidal plaques in the mouth or throat)
• Hoarse voice / dysphonia
• Sore throat, mild cough on inhalation
• Occasional dry mouth

No — the mouthpiece harbours bacteria and viruses. Each person should have their own.

How do I clean the Rotahaler?

Wipe the mouthpiece with a dry tissue weekly. Do not wash with water — moisture damages the device.

Why is rinsing my mouth so important?

Inhaled corticosteroid that deposits in the mouth and throat can grow Candida (oral thrush) and cause dysphonia (hoarse voice). Rinsing, gargling, and spitting out drops both side-effect rates by more than half.
