How Oral Minoxidil Works
Minoxidil is a prodrug activated in the liver to minoxidil sulfate. The beta-blocker (usually atenolol or metoprolol) blocks the tachycardia; a loop diuretic (furosemide) blocks the fluid retention. Without the cocktail, minoxidil is dangerous.
