What is Moisol Eye Drop?

Moisol Eye Drop is manufactured by Cipla and contains Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose 0.3% as a sterile ophthalmic solution. Lubricant eye drops (artificial tears) supplement natural tears, hydrate the ocular surface, and reduce friction during blinking. They are first-line for mild dry eye, eye fatigue, and computer vision syndrome, and complement disease-modifying therapies in moderate-to-severe dry eye.

Hoe het werkt

Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose forms a viscous polymer film over the cornea and conjunctiva, mimicking the mucin layer of the natural tear film. The polymer holds water, keeping the surface hydrated longer than saline alone. Carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), polyvinyl alcohol, and hyaluronic acid are common active polymers — all with similar lubricating action.

Indicaties

  • Mild dry eye — burning, gritty sensation, intermittent blurred vision
  • Eye fatigue / computer vision syndrome — prolonged screen use, contact-lens wear, air conditioning
  • Adjunct in moderate-to-severe dry eye — alongside cyclosporine, lifitegrast, punctal plugs
  • Post-LASIK / refractive surgery dry eye
  • Environmental irritation — wind, dust, smoke, pool chlorine
  • Lid-margin disease support — meibomian gland dysfunction (alongside lid hygiene)

Dosering

1–2 drops in each eye 4–8 times daily as needed. There is no maximum — preservative-free formulations can be used hourly if needed. Multi-dose bottles with preservatives should be limited to 4–6 instillations daily to avoid preservative-mediated ocular surface toxicity.

Preservative-free is preferred for frequent use. Benzalkonium chloride (the most common eye-drop preservative) damages the corneal epithelium with frequent dosing. Patients using artificial tears more than 4 times daily should switch to preservative-free single-use vials or unit-dose bottles. This is particularly important in chronic dry eye, post-LASIK, and contact-lens wearers.

Bijwerkingen

Lokaal: mild stinging on instillation (uncommon), transient blur (10–30 seconds while the polymer film equilibrates), conjunctival hyperaemia (rare).

Systemisch: none — lubricants are not absorbed.

Waarschuwingen & Contra-indicaties

  • Hypersensitivity to any component (rare)
  • Frequent use with preservative-containing drops can cause secondary toxicity — switch to preservative-free
  • If symptoms worsen or do not improve in 1–2 weeks, see your eye-care professional — dry-eye disease may be more advanced than mild and require disease-modifying therapy

Opslag

Store at 15–25°C. Multi-dose bottles: discard 28 days after first opening. Single-use vials: discard immediately after use.

Veelgestelde vragen

When should I use Moisol Eye Drop?

Whenever your eyes feel dry, gritty, tired, or burning. Common triggers: prolonged screen use, contact-lens wear, air conditioning, wind, allergy season. Use as needed — there is no safe maximum for preservative-free formulations.

What is the difference between brands of artificial tears?

Most brands use one of these polymers: carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), polyvinyl alcohol, hyaluronic acid, or polyethylene glycol/propylene glycol. All work similarly. Preservative status, viscosity, and lipid content (for evaporative dry eye) are bigger differentiators than the specific polymer.

Should I use preservative-free?

Yes if you use drops more than 4 times daily, have moderate-to-severe dry eye, are post-LASIK, or wear contact lenses. Preservatives (especially benzalkonium chloride) damage the corneal epithelium with frequent use.

Can I use Moisol Eye Drop with my contact lenses?

Most lubricants can be used with lenses in if labelled ‘contact lens compatible’. Preservative-free formulations are safest. Some viscous gels should be applied before lens insertion or after removal.

What if my eyes are still dry?

Mild dry eye usually responds to lubricants alone. Persistent symptoms suggest moderate-to-severe disease — meibomian gland dysfunction (warm compresses, lid hygiene), aqueous-deficient dry eye (cyclosporine, punctal plugs), Sjögren’s syndrome. Have your eye-care professional examine the lids and tear film.

Can I use Moisol Eye Drop long-term?

Yes. Preservative-free formulations are safe for chronic indefinite use. Multi-dose preservative-containing bottles should be capped at 4–6 instillations daily.

What about gel drops vs solution drops?

Gels are more viscous, last longer, but blur vision more. Often used at bedtime. Solutions are quick acting with minimal blur — best for daytime use.

Is Moisol Eye Drop safe in pregnancy?

Yes — lubricants are not absorbed.

What if I forget to use Moisol Eye Drop?

Use it whenever symptoms occur. There is no fixed schedule.

What's the difference between dry eye and eye fatigue?

Eye fatigue (asthenopia) is muscular — from prolonged near-focus and reduced blinking during screen use. Dry eye is an ocular-surface disease. Both improve with lubricants and by addressing the trigger (20-20-20 rule for fatigue, environmental controls and sometimes prescription drops for dry eye).
