What is Nano Tears Eye Drop?

Nano Tears Eye Drop is manufactured by Sun Pharma and contains cyclosporine 0.05% as a sterile ophthalmic emulsion. Topical cyclosporine is a calcineurin inhibitor that addresses the immune-mediated inflammatory component of chronic dry eye disease — distinct from purely lubricating artificial tears.

Cyclosporine binds intracellular cyclophilin and inhibits calcineurin in T-lymphocytes, blocking the transcription of IL-2 and downstream T-cell-mediated inflammation. In chronic dry eye, conjunctival and lacrimal-gland T-cell infiltration drives a self-perpetuating inflammatory cycle — cyclosporine breaks this cycle, reducing inflammatory cytokines and increasing tear production over weeks to months.

• Moderate-to-severe chronic dry eye disease with inflammatory component
• Sjögren’s syndrome–associated keratoconjunctivitis sicca
• Post-LASIK chronic dry eye
• Atopic keratoconjunctivitis (off-label)
• Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (off-label)
• Graft-versus-host disease ocular involvement

Dosering

1 drop in each eye twice daily, ideally 12 hours apart. Continue indefinitely — cyclosporine is a chronic-disease therapy, not a course. Many patients also use preservative-free artificial tears alongside, instilled 5+ minutes after cyclosporine.

Bijwerkingen

Most common: burning or stinging on instillation (15–20% of patients in the first 1–2 weeks; usually settles). Tip: a brief course of low-potency steroid or steroid-NSAID at initiation reduces burning.

Minder vaak: conjunctival hyperaemia, ocular discharge, foreign body sensation, blurred vision after instillation, eye pain.

Systemisch: negligible from topical use. Unlike oral cyclosporine, topical formulation does not cause kidney impairment, hypertension, or systemic immunosuppression.
