Metrogyl Gel is meant for external use only. It should be applied only to the affected area of the skin as per the dosage and schedule prescribed by your doctor. In order to get the most benefit, apply it regularly, and preferably at the same time each day. Do not use larger amounts or apply it more often or for a longer duration than directed. This will only increase the risk of side effects. You may have to use it for a long time (up to 3 months) before your acne starts to improve. Be patient and keep using it every day.
Common side effects include dry skin, erythema, and application site reactions like minor burning, stinging, or irritation. These are usually temporary and resolve quickly. Consult your doctor if any of these persist or if your condition does not improve.
Before using it, inform your doctor if you have any previous history of allergy to it or any other medicine. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using it. Avoid any contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse it off with water if you accidentally get the medicine in these areas.

HOW METROGYL GEL WORKS
Často kladené dotazy
What does Metrogyl Gel treat?
Metrogyl Gel (topical metronidazole) is used for inflammatory rosacea papules and pustules, perioral dermatitis, and selected anaerobic skin infections. The topical route delivers high local levels with negligible systemic absorption, so the disulfiram-like reaction and other systemic side effects of oral metronidazole are not expected.
How long until I see improvement?
Rosacea responds slowly — visible reduction in inflammatory lesions usually takes 3–6 weeks of consistent twice-daily application. Many patients continue maintenance application long-term to prevent recurrence. The redness component (telangiectasia and flushing) responds less well and may need additional measures (laser, brimonidine, lifestyle).
How do I apply Metrogyl Gel?
Wash and dry the area first, then apply a thin layer to the affected skin twice daily (or as directed). Avoid the eyes, mouth, and inside the nose. Skip moisturiser application immediately before or after — wait at least 5–10 minutes between products. Sunscreen during the day is recommended (rosacea-prone skin is sun-sensitive).
What side effects can the gel cause?
Mild local stinging, burning, dryness, and erythema are most common in the first week and usually settle. Stop and seek advice if you develop a marked rash, severe burning, or signs of allergic contact dermatitis.
Can I use Metrogyl Gel during pregnancy?
Topical metronidazole has minimal systemic absorption and is generally considered acceptable in pregnancy and breastfeeding when the indication is valid (rosacea typically improves spontaneously in pregnancy, so topical therapy is often paused). Discuss with your clinician.
Do I need to avoid alcohol with topical Metrogyl Gel?
The disulfiram-like reaction is well-documented with oral metronidazole. Topical absorption is minimal so the reaction is not expected, but caution is sometimes advised for the first 48 hours after stopping. Practical answer: moderate alcohol is fine with topical use; oral is a different story.
