What is Becozinc?
Becozinc is a B-complex capsule with added zinc. The B-complex covers the same eight vitamins as Beplex Forte (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12). Zinc is added because B-deficiency and zinc deficiency frequently coexist in the same patient populations — alcohol use disorder, malabsorption, chronic illness, severe burns, eating disorders — and zinc has its own indications in immune function, wound healing, skin, hair, and nail health.
Indicaties
- Combined B-vitamin and zinc deficiency in alcohol use disorder, malnutrition
- Wound healing adjunct — zinc supports collagen synthesis and re-epithelialisation
- Acne adjunct — zinc has modest evidence for inflammatory acne
- Recurrent infections in zinc deficiency (paediatric diarrhoea, severe malnutrition)
- Hair and nail brittleness when zinc deficiency is contributing
- Adjunct in chronic kidney disease with zinc deficiency (common)
- Maintenance after parenteral B-complex loading
How to take
One capsule once or twice daily with food. Avoid taking simultaneously with calcium or iron supplements — they compete for absorption with zinc; separate by 2 hours.
Bijwerkingen
- Milde maag-darmklachten — nausea, taste disturbance (zinc-related); take with food
- Bright yellow urine from riboflavin — harmless
- Copper deficiency with prolonged high-dose zinc — can cause anaemia and neuropathy; relevant only at >50 mg elemental zinc/day for >3 months
- Niacin flushing — transient
Sustained zinc intake above 50 mg/day for >3 months can induce copper deficiency, presenting as anaemia, neutropenia, or peripheral neuropathy. Standard Becozinc dose is well below this threshold. Caution applies if you stack Becozinc with other zinc-containing supplements (multivitamins, oral zinc lozenges). Total zinc intake should not exceed 40 mg/day from supplements long-term without specialist input.
Geneesmiddelinteracties
- Iron, calcium, copper — compete for absorption; separate by 2 hours
- Tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones — zinc chelates them in the gut; separate by 2–4 hours
- Penicillamine — zinc reduces absorption; separate by at least 2 hours
- Levodopa — B6 effect (rarely clinically significant with modern formulations)
- Long-term metformin or PPI — both reduce B12 and zinc absorption
Contra-indicaties
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Active copper deficiency (would need specific copper replacement first)

Veelgestelde vragen
Becozinc or Beplex Forte?
Becozinc adds zinc to the B-complex. Choose Becozinc when zinc deficiency or its indications (wound healing, acne, hair/nails, immune function) is part of the picture. Choose Beplex Forte when only B-vitamin replacement is needed and zinc is already adequate from diet (red meat, shellfish, legumes, seeds).
Will it help my skin?
Zinc has modest evidence for inflammatory acne and supports general skin health. B-complex supports skin in deficiency states (riboflavin deficiency causes angular cheilitis and seborrhoeic dermatitis; biotin deficiency causes alopecia and rash). Combined supplementation in deficient patients improves both. In non-deficient patients the cosmetic benefit is small.
Can I take it during a cold?
Zinc lozenges (specifically zinc gluconate / acetate, dissolved in the mouth at first symptom onset) have modest evidence for shortening cold duration. Becozinc is swallowed and the form/timing differ; expect general nutritional support rather than acute cold treatment.
Is it safe in pregnancy?
Yes at standard dose. Zinc is essential in pregnancy for fetal development; deficiency is associated with low birth weight and preterm delivery. Most prenatal multivitamins already contain zinc — check before doubling up.
Why does zinc cause taste disturbance?
A common side effect at higher zinc doses, more pronounced with empty-stomach administration. Take with food to reduce this; usually fades over a week or two.
Can children take it?
Paediatric zinc supplementation has clear benefit in low/middle-income-country childhood diarrhoea and malnutrition (WHO recommends zinc + ORS for childhood diarrhoea). Routine use in well-fed children is rarely needed. Capsule format is generally for older children and adults.
Should I take it with food?
Yes — reduces nausea and taste disturbance. Avoid taking with calcium-rich meals (dairy) or with iron supplements; they compete for absorption.
Will it improve my hair growth?
Hair loss caused by zinc or biotin deficiency improves with replacement. Hair loss from male/female pattern, post-partum, autoimmune (alopecia areata), or severe systemic disease will not improve from Becozinc — treat the cause.
Can I take it long-term?
Yes at standard dose. Watch total daily zinc intake from all sources; do not exceed 40 mg/day long-term without specialist input.
What about wound healing after surgery?
Zinc deficiency impairs wound healing; replacement in deficient patients clearly helps. Routine zinc supplementation in non-deficient patients having elective surgery has not been shown to speed healing — but the evidence base is mixed and short-term use is low risk.
